They organize events such as the Army's 248th birthday and Flag Day celebration at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home in Sparks Nevada.
This event was attended by veterans from the Reno Veterinary Center, Truckee Meadows Community College, Western Nevada College, the University of Nevada at Reno (UNR), and local veteran service organizations (VSOs). It was also attended by visitors from other countries such as Argentina, Austria, and Australia. Reverend Greg Watson from the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home (NNSVH) gave a blessing at the event. He reminded everyone of the fundamental principle of Vietnam Veterans of America: “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”The family of a veteran recently asked for donations to be made to the Elks Veterans Services Committee in lieu of flowers. The newly opened Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza (NVMP) in Sparks has requested volunteers from several community organizations in the area to help maintain it through weekly cleaning. VVA 989 also organizes a Ruck to Remember event where protesters take turns carrying backpacks with nearly 7,000 service member nameplates to the Nevada Veterans Memorial Ceremony in Fernley, Nevada.
